World governments are focusing too much on fighting terrorism while obesity and other "lifestyle diseases" are killing millions more people, an international conference heard Monday.
Obesity is only a government problem if you believe that government should be deciding what we eat and how much of it. The article also says, "However, it is preventable chronic disease that will send health systems and economies to the wall." The only way that government can prevent obesity is by restricting our diets. Individual cities have already attempted high taxes on foods they don't want us to eat. A couple of cities have banned restaurants from using trans fat (cross dressing fat?) in the foods they prepare.
In the never ending quest of the Nanny Elite for control over our lives they can't leave this issue alone. If I eat too much and don't get enough exercise, I get fat. A few years ago, I weighed close to 240 pounds. I lost a lot of weight and got down as low as 187. I'm fairly consistent at 200 pounds right now. I didn't need a government program to do it. Furthermore, if I was still fat, so what? It's MY business, not that of government.
The idiots carp about the social cost of obesity, blah, blah, blah, but people should be paying their own health care costs ANYWAY! Can you imagine the funny looks you would have gotten 20 years ago if you said, "Now that the government is going after smokers, they'll eventually turn their attention to our food." Sure enough, that's what happened. It's only going to get worse.
Maybe our benevolent government should control the entire food supply so that we only eat what is good and healthy for us. They'll do it or the children!
