Miscellany

I almost ran over a puppy today. A little black one. Fortunately, he made it across safely.

Malibu is a very nice place but it's so difficult to get to. You can take the canyon roads from the freeways north of Los Angeles or you can take Pacific Coast Highway from the 10 freeway. Traffic there is always beastly. I'm guessing a lot of people that live there, hardly ever leave. But if you're going to live in a place that's tough to get in and out of, that's the place to be!

It would be fun to start a rumor that a cell phone virus is going around that sends a silent signal to your brain to produce a real virus. It would take a lot of work to create fake scientific studies, etc. and I really just don't have that kind of time.

I know, I need to get back to The Federalist Papers. #7 is a bit boring and much like #6 so I've been putting it off.

It's been reported that my recent blog post about voting actually swayed someone's opinion in my direction. Imagine that!

Miscellany

Brave Little Dif - Took Little Dif to the Los Angeles County Fair on Friday and she proved her bravery once more.

Ron Pauloween
- Make a bunch of Ron Paul DVD's and pass them out with your Halloween candy this year. There are certain people that think I'm crazy for not supporting on of the so-called major candidates for the Republican Party but I know that they are the one's that are misguided, not me. Dr. Paul is gaining ground every day.

A Good Day To Die - Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is now in our country. He's a terrorist, he should not have been allowed in. His visit to Ground Zero in New York City was denied. Perhaps the appropriate thing to do would have been to permit his visit there and then surprise him with a summary execution (after dousing him in pig blood of course).

Fire Them All - The United Auto Workers Union went on strike today, the first time since 1976. Apparently this is about job security? You've got to wonder about the mentality of people who think that a business should continue to employ them even if their position becomes obsolete. The Unions are completely again technology that will eliminate job despite the fact that it would lower prices for the rest of us through efficiency. Fire them all, kick out the Union and offer to hire anyone back that pledges not to join a Union. Yes, that's illegal but the laws that compel a business to negotiate with Unions are ludicrous to begin with. Have I ever mentioned that I HATE unions?

Missing Money - Find out if you have money owed to you by your state. Not every state is on this list but a Google search for "unclaimed property" and your state should turn up the site you need. NEVER pay anyone to recover money owed to you by the state. You can always contact the Unclaimed Property division of your state Controller office and claim it for free.

Back Up Your Blog - What happens if your blog provider goes down? What would happen to all the brilliant/moronic/insightful/boring things you've written? Well, now you can back up your entire blog. Use HTTRACK. It's fairly easy to use to back up any website.

Miscellany

  • The city of San Francisco has 23,000 coin fed parking meters. They were wondering why their parking meter revenue was so small. It turns out they have 92,000 people in the city with handicap placards. My question is this: What is it about being handicapped that should exempt someone from sticking a few coins in the meter?
  • I'm sure they won't abuse it but it appears that the government wants to put x-ray cameras in lamp posts and other "street furniture" in order to seek out terrorists, people carrying guns, etc. They also want to give the police a database of all citizens matched to phone and travel records, etc. But really, it's just for their own good.
  • It irritates me when people say "supposebly" instead of "supposedly." There are a number of other words people butcher also, but I just heard someone say it so I thought I'd pass it on.
  • Hillary made a not-so-subtle reference to Bill being evil at a town hall meeting. Some one in the audience asked her a question about how she would be able to deal with evil men. Her response was, "The question is, we face a lot of dangers in the world and, in the gentleman's words, we face a lot of evil men and what in my background equips me to deal with evil and bad men," There was about 30 seconds of laughter and applause from the audience.
  • How is this a crime? - Actress & singer Brandy (whom I've never heard of before now) may possibly be charged with misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter for starting an accident that killed a woman on a California freeway. There were no drugs involved, no alcohol and she was not talking on her cell phone at the time of the crash. Apparently, traffic slowed down and she rear-ended the victims vehicle which caused it to hit another vehicle when then sent it crashing in to the center divider where it was struck by yet another vehicle. The victim died of blunt force trauma. But why prosecute her? It was clearly an accident with no criminal intent. It's bad enough that someone died accidentally, it doesn't mean that someone has to be criminally punished. The family can already sue her for civil damages.
  • At midnight tonight, Microsoft Windows Vista will officially be on sale. I am not looking forward to another piece of bloatware from Microsoft. I will likely install it on a virtual machine some time in the near future but I currently don't have a machine powerful enough to run it. As a stated a few posts back, my next laptop is going to be a Mac so I won't have to deal with Microsoft's failures full time.
